Studio Tour
Don’t miss award-winning local playwrights Charissa Menefee
and Micki Shelton at Coffee Roasters, 318 W. Gurley. This offering will demonstrate
how plays are workshopped and refined before being put on stage. Directors
will cast the playwrights’ works-in-progress from a pool of professional
and student actors who will perform cold readings of the plays, interspersed
with discussion and suggestions from the actors, directors, and playwrights.
Every half-hour to forty-five minutes, the audience will be invited to engage
with the actors, playwrights, and directors in response and discussion of the
plays-in-progress. Both playwrights have written a number of critically acclaimed
plays. Menefee’s play, The Figurehead, was a part of the New American
Playwrights Project at the Utah Shakespearean Festival; and Circles, by
Shelton, was one of six plays selected for the 2nd Annual Ashland New Plays
Festival in Oregon. Info: 928/708-0166.
